A little more Canadian content for you. This song from the early eighties was a major hit for the likes of Paul Hyde and his band Payola$. It reached #4 in Canada and even won a Juno. I’ve always loved this particular track for its reggae/rock crossover vibes, and its simplicity while still being a strong example of songwriting.
I still hear it a lot in the wild, and each time I did, it would occur to me to make a remix. So on the last occasion, I had some time and decided to take it on. Right at the moment, I appeared to be very much into the dub vibe, and this is how I treated the mix. The parts were separated in UVR5 and then I added heavy reverb and echo effects on the parts. This remix was done live in one take — the parts were manually muted and unmuted on the fly, and the track was played on a loop. Is it over 11 minutes long? Yes. Do I think it’s too long? Not really.
